Baked Tilapia


Prep: 5 minutes

Cook: 15 minutes



  • 4 (~6 ounces) tilapia fillets
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 3 tomatoes (cubed)
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 lime, finely grated zest and juice
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Fish masala spice
  • Salt to taste


Tomato Sauce

Sauté the onion

Add chopped tomatoes

Add in water to make a thick paste

Set aside till fish is into 10 minutes of baking.


The Tilapia

Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Coat the baking dish (cast iron recommended) with olive oil

Rinse the tilapia & pat dry

Put the fish in the baking dish and season with fish masala, black pepper lime zest/juice and salt

Cover and bake in the oven for 15 minutes until fish flakes easily with a fork

Pour the tomato sauce over the fish

Turn oven heat off and let set for 5 minutes and it is ready to serve

Enjoy with rice, ugali or mashed potato

Goes well with Sauvignon blanc or Pinot grigio
